Preschoolers Parade Through Piedmont Arts

On January 14 and 21, students from local preschools visited Piedmont Arts for a program on hats. The students toured the new exhibit, Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats and viewed hats loaned to Piedmont Art by community members.

After the tour, Pam Toney read the students the illustrated book, Aunt Flossie’s Hats (and Crab Cakes Later). After the story, the students had the opportunity to make a hat to take home! Ms. Toney supplied papier maché hats for a total of 42 kids, which they decorated with feathers, pom poms and ribbon in the Piedmont Arts classroom. Before leaving, Ms. Toney lead the students on a hat parade through Piedmont Arts, where they showed off their new creations for members of the Piedmont Arts Guild and the Piedmont Arts staff.
