Oh, the horror!

We're getting ready for a spooky October as we read The Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe as part of The Big Read in Martinsville and Henry County. This year’s book is sure to tingle the spines of readers throughout our area.

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences and Arts Midwest. It gives communities the opportunity to come together to read, discuss, and celebrate one of 23 selections from American and world literature. Piedmont Arts is one of 75 not-for-profits — including arts and cultural organizations, libraries and universities — to receive a grant to host a Big Read project between September 2010 and June 2011.

Piedmont Arts hosted the first Big Read in Martinsville and Henry County in 2009. Many of you participated in our events which focused on the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This year's event are decidedly more creepy, but just as fun! We hope to see you at the “horrifying” events we’ve planned for the celebration!
