Celebrating 20 Years On Stage!
2010-11 On Stage! Season Announced
It's been 20 years since the first Piedmont Arts On Stage! performing arts season opened with a performance by Jackie "The Story Lady" Torrence. Since then, the organization has hosted 79 performances by world-renowned acts like Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, The Richmond Ballet and the Sam Bush Band. This year's season, which opens November 14, 2010 with a performance by the Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats, is jam-packed with some of the most popular On Stage! performances from the last two decades.
"There's no better way to showcase the On Stage! series' 20 year legacy than to present some of our best-selling, most talked about performances from years past and exciting new artists that will define the future" said Bernadette Moore, Piedmont Arts' director of marketing and public relations.
This year's On Stage! season spans an array of artistic genres, bringing to the stage joyous holiday music, a magical Shakespearean romp, dazzling acrobatic feats, floor-shaking, heart-pounding dance routines and a down-home twist on the music of the Fab Four.
"The goals of the On Stage! series are to inspire, educate and entertain – all of which are equally important" said Barbara Parker, Piedmont Arts director of programs. "Our hope is that by bringing a diversity of artists from around the world to this part of Southern Virginia we will inspire the next generation of audiences and artists to support, enjoy and learn from the performing arts."
