FREE LECUTRE ON LIFE AND LEGACY OF NOTABLE AFRICAN AMERICAN CRAFTSMAN

On Tuesday, January 18, 2011, Piedmont Arts will present Carving a Place in History, a program by Laurel Sneed, director of the Thomas Day Education Project. Sneed will present a study of the life and legacy of free-person-of-color Thomas Day, one of American history’s most notable entrepreneurs and craftsmen. Carving a Place in History will begin at 6:00 pm in Piedmont Arts' Frith Performance Hall. This program is free of charge and open to the public.

In addition to the life and legacy of Day, Sneed will provide key information for local educators on how to incorporate Day's story into the school curriculum. Educators interested in attending Carving a Place in History are invited to an Educators Reception before the program, beginning at 5:30 pm. This reception is free of charge and refreshments will be provided.

Johnson, an exhibit in honor of Black History Month, which features work by two African American woodworkers with ties to our area as well as an educational exhibit on Thomas Day. Finishing History will be on display at Piedmont Arts January 15 through February 26, 2011.
