New Logo Unveiled in Celebration of 50th Anniversary

Today, Piedmont Arts unveiled a new logo with a fresh, contemporary design that reflects the organization's role as an accredited art museum and community-enriching educational outreach center. The unveiling of the new logo serves as a kick off for Piedmont Arts' 50th anniversary, which the organization will celebrate through June 2012.

"It is fitting that as we celebrate our rich past, we also look to the future with a fresh new look,” said Piedmont Arts Executive Director Kathy Rogers. “The new logo was the culmination of months of hard work and clearly embodies who we are and what we provide to the region."

The new logo was designed in-house by Bernadette Moore, Piedmont Arts director of marketing and public relations with assistance from a committee made up of members of the community, the Piedmont Arts Board of Directors and Piedmont Arts staff. Committee members included: Karen Despot, board member/artist; John Matthews, artist; Shar Peitz, board member/artist; Tina Sell, Piedmont Arts director of exhibitions; and David Stone, board member.

“We are extremely excited about the new logo design,” said Moore. "It has a clean, contemporary look that will serve us well into the future. The design not only embodies the many functions we serve in our community today, but also presents the organization as a first-rate, professional institution to artists and performers interested in working with Piedmont Arts."

Despot added, "While keeping with tradition is good and safe, it is an appropriate time for Piedmont Arts to change the logo to coincide with the arts excitement going on within the community. The new design is fresh and contemporary and appeals to youth as well as corporate partners. It's happy and reflects the energy within the organization."

The new logo can be seen on the Piedmont Arts website beginning Friday, March 18, 2011. The organization will gradually switch out marketing materials which bear the previous logo as need arises.

Piedmont Arts was founded in 1961 when the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts encouraged the formation of a statewide network of local chapters. Since its inception the organization has had several logos. The museum's previous logo was created when the building and grounds were remodeled in 1997-98.
