ON STAGE! SEASON FEATURES CLASSIC ROCK PIONEERS POCO + PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE
The Piedmont Arts On Stage! performing arts series will kick off it's 21st year this October, bringing to the stage dynamic performances by a host of favorites and new artists, including the swinging beats of Samson Trinh and the Upper East Side Big Band, holiday classics and clever high jinks by the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, live theatre featuring an all-British cast from Aquila Theatre Co. and a powerhouse performance by 1970s country-rock superstars Poco and Pure Prairie League!
In addition to these exciting events, Piedmont Arts has also planned two Special Event performances, held in conjunction with upcoming exhibits in the Piedmont Arts galleries.

Aquila Theatre's production of Oscar Wilde’s classic play overflows with razor-sharp wit and dizzy romantic comedy. The tale follows two young men who bend the truth to add a dash of excitement to their lives. However, their deceptions eventually cross paths, resulting in a series of hilarious discoveries that threaten to spoil their romantic pursuits.

Country-rock pioneers Poco found platinum success early in their career, and four decades later Rusty Young, who wrote and sang the massive hits “Crazy Love” and “Heart Of The Night”, still leads this incredible band. They continue to record new material, including a 40th anniversary DVD.
When Pure Prairie League formed in the late 1960s, no one had put a label on the music they played. Along with groups like the Eagles, they reached mainstream radio listeners as singles like “Amie” climbed the Billboard. Pure Prairie League continues to record and tour around the world. An evening with these two legendary bands will be unforgettable!

Since its publication in 1936, Margaret Mitchell's novel, Gone with the Wind, has enjoyed wild popularity. Dr. Elliot Engel examines the intriguing background of both author and book and proves why Gone with the Wind should be considered a great American novel. This event is held in conjunction with the exhibit, Civil War Redux: Pinhole Photographs of Reenactments, on display in the Piedmont Arts galleries Oct 15 through Dec 31, 2011.

This event is held in conjunction with the exhibit, Norman Rockwell's Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, on display in the Piedmont Arts galleries Mar 10 through Apr 28, 2012
