Country-rock legends Poco and Pure Prairie League will perform in Martinsville as part of the Piedmont Arts On Stage! performing arts series. Playing familiar hits from the 70s and beyond, these well-loved bands will wrap up the 2011–12 On Stage! season with their performance.

Formed in 1968 by Rusty Young, Richie Furay and Jim Messina following the breakup of Buffalo Springfield, Poco found success early in their career. Four decades later Young, who wrote and sang massive hits like "Crazy Love" and "Heart of the Night," still leads this incredible band.  Other Poco hits include, “Rose of Cimarron,” “Keep On Tryin’” and “Good  Feelin’ to Know.”  Poco continues to record and release new material including an unplugged CD, “The Wildwood Sessions,” and a critically acclaimed 40th anniversary DVD.

When Pure Prairie League formed in the late 1960s, no one had put a label on the music they played. Although the band drew heavily from 1960s rock, the group added a dose of country and high-flying harmony that gave it a unique sound soon to be known as country-rock. Pure Prairie League, along with groups like the Eagles, reached mainstream radio listeners by the mid-1970s as singles like “Amie” and “I can’t Stop the Feelin’” climbed the charts. Today, Pure Prairie League still records, tours the world and places singles on the charts.

Piedmont Arts On Stage! presents Poco and Pure Prairie League in concert on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 7:30 pm at Martinsville High School Auditorium. Tickets are $28 for reserved, $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students.
