May Art Walk Brings Unique Art and Music to Uptown

First Friday Art Walk will expand its reach in Uptown Martinsville on May 4 as 20 businesses plan to participate in the spring kick-off of this monthly event.

Artist studios, galleries, retail shops, restaurants, museums and more will be open late, from 5 - 7 pm, to celebrate the arts and culture in Martinsville and to encourage residents and visitors to shop, dine and enjoy the Uptown area.

"Art Walk has been an important part of Studio 107's programming since it was opened," said Bernadette Moore, Piedmont Arts director of marketing and public relations. "We are ecstatic to see that this month so many businesses will be participating in this community event."

"First Friday Art Walk started small, with only two participating businesses," said Carolyn Beale, coordinator of Studio 107 Artist Studios for Piedmont Arts. "With persistence we have steadily grown over the years and this month's Art Walk promises to be the largest yet. We hope community support continues to grow."

In addition to extended hours at local businesses, First Friday Art Walk also offers special events designed to bring arts and culture to the forefront of the community.
