Piedmont Arts and Studio 107 Plan Week of Holiday Events, Dec. 3 – 8

Piedmont Arts and Studio 107 have chocked the calendar full of holiday events this week, with everything from a Tacky Sweater Party to an annual concert of Christmas music performed by Roanoke Symphony Orchestra.

It’s Tacky Sweater Week at Piedmont Arts and guests brave enough to visit the museum through Dec. 7 in their tackiest holiday sweaters will be entered to win two open seating tickets to the Roanoke Symphony’s Holiday Pops Spectacular on Saturday, Dec. 8. Plus, guests who visit the museum on Thursday, Dec. 6 will get to see the Piedmont Arts staff decked out in their tackiest holiday sweaters. The winners of the Holiday Pops Spectacular tickets will be drawn Friday, Dec. 7 at 4:30 pm and notified by email.

Friday, Dec. 7 brings the monthly First Friday Art Walk to Uptown from 5 – 7 pm. Studio 107 and over 20 other Uptown businesses will be open with holiday sales and specials. Studio 107 will also be offering another chance to win tickets to the Holiday Pops Spectacular by visiting the studio during Art Walk and registering for Piedmont Arts e-news.

Piedmont Arts Yo Pros, a group encouraging participation in the arts by young professionals, will continue the tacky sweater theme with their first-ever event on Friday night at the Rives Theatre. The Yo Pros Tacky Sweater Party offers young professionals a chance to compete for prizes in a tacky sweater contest and enjoy a screening of the holiday classic, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, on the big screen. Doors open at 7:30 pm. Tacky Sweater Contest at 9:00 pm. Movie at 9:30 pm. Complimentary holiday cookies and a cash bar available. Admission is $3 for Piedmont Arts members and $5 for non-members. Purchase tickets here or at the door the night of the event.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, Studio 107 will again roll out the holiday welcome mat for the Super Holiday Open House from 10 am – 3 pm. Studio 107 artists will give demonstrations and talk to visitors about their work. Hand-painted and origami ornaments, winter accessories, original artwork and Studio 107 gift cards will be for sale. Guests can also enjoy live dulcimer music and hot apple cider while shopping.

Rounding out the holiday events on Saturday, Dec. 8 is Piedmont Arts On Stage’s annual Holiday Pops Spectacular featuring the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra at 7 pm at Martinsville High School Auditorium. Returning to On Stage for the 6th year, the Holiday Pops Spectacular is always full of surprises and this year is no different. This season’s concert, themed “It’s a Wonderful Life,” includes an orchestral and choral medley of songs from the Jimmy Stewart classic. Also accompanying the orchestra is Miss Virginia 2011 Elizabeth Crot, who will present a solo in her award-winning soprano. Piedmont Arts will also be collecting canned goods for Grace Network in the auditorium lobby prior to the performance. Tickets are $25 for reserved seats, $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at Piedmont Arts or online.
