Museum's Weekend Plans Include Events for Young Professionals and Teens

Piedmont Arts has planned two events this weekend to attract Gen Xers and Millenials to the museum.

On Friday, February 8 at 7 pm, Piedmont Arts’ Yo Pros will host Mardi Gras at the Museum, a Fat Tuesday-themed party at Piedmont Arts, geared toward young professionals ages 20 to 40. The party will feature Cajun gumbo, king cake and a cash bar. In the spirit of Mardi Gras, Yo Pros are encouraged to wear purple, green, gold and masquerade masks. Admission is $5 for Piedmont Arts members and $7 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at www.piedmontarts.org.

"We are so excited to host our second Yo Pros event in MHC," said Bernadette Moore, Piedmont Arts director of marketing and public relations, who works closely with the group to help plan events. "Piedmont Arts board member Kim Buck has done a wonderful job organizing our Mardi Gras party and we hope all our local Yo Pros take part in the fun. The more participants we have, the more events we can plan in the future."
Piedmont Arts' Yo Pros is designed to create a social network around arts and culture for young professionals in Martinsville and Henry County. The group's first event was a tacky sweater party held at the Rives Theatre in December. To learn more about Piedmont Arts' Yo Pros, click here.

On Saturday, February 9 at 7 pm, Piedmont Arts’ Teen Arts Council will present Band Night for area high school students at the museum. Local bands Losing Suzy and Seeking Destiny will be featured at this free event. Only high school aged youth will be allowed to attend.

"Band Night is a first-of-its-kind event for the Teen Arts Council," said Heidi Pinkston, who is Piedmont Arts' education coordinator and oversees the group. "We hope that local teens will be encouraged to participate in this and other events at the museum. Events like this allow Piedmont Arts to incorporate youth development into the arts."
