Richmond Ballet II Brings Classic and Contemporary Ballet to Stage, March 9

On March 9, an elite group of 10 professional dancers from Richmond Ballet II will bring a fresh and exciting repertory of dances to Martinsville High School Auditorium as part of Piedmont Arts’ On Stage performing arts series.

“We are so excited that our new company, Richmond Ballet II, will be making one of its premiere tour performances in Martinsville,” said Brett Bonda, Managing Director of Richmond Ballet. “This performance will continue the wonderful partnership we have developed for more than a decade with Piedmont Arts, through our program Minds In Motion and the professional company.”

Richmond Ballet II's On Stage performance will include classic and contemporary ballets, like: Fairy Doll, a whimsical work set in a 19th century French toyshop where a toymaker's dolls magically come to life at night and dance; and Djangology, a playful and sometimes wacky work set to the jazzy music of Django Reinhardt. In this piece, dancers let loose to tunes including, “Georgia on my Mind,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” and “Tiger Rag” and invite the crowd to join in the fun with their contagious energy.

In addition to their public performance, Piedmont Arts will also present lecture demonstrations by Richmond Ballet II in local schools as part of the museum’s educational outreach program.

Tickets to Piedmont Arts On Stage presents Richmond Ballet II are $28 for reserved, $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students and are now on sale at Piedmont Arts and online.
