Piedmont Arts Offers Scholarships for Local Students


Piedmont Arts is now accepting applications for the Nicodemus Hufford Memorial Arts Scholarship and the Harold Knowlton Work Memorial Scholarship. These scholarships are designed to provide funds for students from Martinsville and Henry County to pursue an education in the visual or performing arts at an accredited four-year institution.

The Nicodemus Hufford Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of the famed portrait artist, is available to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Martinsville or Henry County, Virginia, or who attend schools located in Martinsville or Henry County. Hufford scholarships of up to $1,000 are available for 2013 recipients. Applications for the Hufford Memorial Scholarship are available here and at Piedmont Arts.  Hufford Scholarship applications are due at Piedmont Arts by 5 pm on May 17, 2013.

The Harold Knowlton Work Memorial Scholarship is available to eligible rising college sophomores, juniors and seniors who graduated from a high school in Martinsville or Henry County, Virginia. This scholarship is funded annually through the Harold Knowlton Work Memorial Scholarship Fund, established by his wife, Julia Ascough Work, to continue higher education studies in the visual and performing arts.  Both Harold and Julia shared a lifelong passion and respect for education and the arts. This generous memorial scholarship ensures that their legacy of learning and imagination lives on by supporting the artists of future generations. Work scholarships of up to $2,000 are available for 2013 recipients. Applications for the Harold Knowlton Work Memorial Scholarship are available here and at Piedmont ArtsWork Scholarship applications are due at Piedmont Arts by 5 pm on May 17, 2013.
