Piedmont Arts Honors Arts Supporters with 2013 Clyde Hooker Awards

For the 11th year, Piedmont Arts will honor the recipients of the Clyde Hooker Award with a reception at the museum.

On June 5 at 5:30 pm, Piedmont Arts will celebrate Betty Lou Pigg and River Community Bank, N.A. for their support of the arts in Martinsville and Henry County.
Betty Lou is a long-time patron of the arts. She and her husband Ron are Piedmont Arts members and season subscribers to the museum’s On Stage performing arts series. Betty Lou also chairs Piedmont Arts’ performing arts committee, where she provides invaluable support to the museum. In addition to Piedmont Arts, Betty Lou also volunteers her time at TheatreWorks Community Players, where she has organized pledge drives for the last three years.

“If I could clone Betty Lou, I would,” said Piedmont Arts Director of Programs Barbara Parker. “She is the kind of volunteer and passionate patron of the arts that expects nothing in return. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the Clyde Hooker Award for 2013.”
River Community Bank, N.A. has been a supporter of Piedmont Arts programs, such as Minds In Motion, the exhibit We Are The Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball and Piedmont Arts’ baseball-themed Game Day, for which the bank provided financial and volunteer support. In addition to Piedmont Arts, River Community Bank, N.A. also provides support to many local organizations.

“We are delighted to honor River Community Bank, N.A. with the Clyde Hooker Award,” said Piedmont Arts Executive Director Kathy Rogers. “In addition to the bank providing monetary support, their employees are also invested in the community, giving their time and talents to area organizations like Piedmont Arts. River Community Bank, N.A. truly does epitomize what the award’s namesake, Clyde Hooker, represented in the community—giving back to improve the quality of life of everyone in our community.”

In addition to the recipients of the Clyde Hooker Award, the reception will also recognize Piedmont Arts’ 2013 scholarship recipients, who will be announced at the reception, and the 2013 recipients of the Arts in Education Award: Pat Walmsley, Principal at Campbell Court Elementary; Felicia Preston, Principal at Albert Harris Elementary; and Patsy Anderson-Rusmisel, Director of Student Support Services at Patrick Henry Community College.

Light refreshments will be served. In lieu of an admission cost, guests are invited to make a donation to Piedmont Arts' scholarship fund. Please RSVP attendance to 276.632.3221 or online at www.piedmontarts.org.
