Piedmont Arts is going mod as the museum presents the Mad Men Martini Mixer, a 1960s-themed fundraiser for the arts in Martinsville and Henry County.
On June 15, the museum will shake, rattle and roll to the cool hits of the 1960s. Everyone 21 and up is invited to come dressed as their favorite Mad Men character or in any sporting fashion from the heyday of rock ‘n’ roll (optional). But being a Mad Men fan isn't a prerequisite to the fun.
"You don't have to follow Mad Men to have a great time at this event," said Bernadette Moore, Piedmont Arts director of marketing and public relations, who has helped plan the fundraiser through Piedmont Arts Yo Pros, the museum's group for young professionals. "The mixer is a perfect summer party, with fun music, dancing and tasty refreshments. Everyone, Mad Men diehard or not, will have a blast."
In addition to donning cool costumes, guests will sample signature martinis from local restaurants and vote for the Best Martini in Town in a Martini Shake-off. Participants include Hugo’s Sports Bar, The Flying Dutchman Lounge, Texas Steakhouse and Susan Critz and Jimmy Warren.
"We want the Martini Shake-off to help promote local businesses," said Kim Buck, a Piedmont Arts board member who works closely with Piedmont Arts Yo Pros. "The winner will take home a unique trophy that can be displayed in their bar or restaurant all year, proclaiming that they make the best martinis in town."
Guests can also participate in a silent jewelry auction, which includes over 20 handmade pieces by local artisans Tracy Tate, Lucy Amato, The Jeweler's Edge, Shar Peitz, Bethany O'Neil, Karen Colletti and Valerie Barnes.
Plus, don't let that fabulous Mad Men costume go to waste. Guests can get their photo snapped by Doss Photography in the Mad Men Photo Booth. Prices start at $5 per picture.
Tickets to the Mad Men Martini Mixer are $25 per person and include two free drinks and one sample from each participating restaurant. Tickets are on sale here and at Piedmont Arts.
This event is made possible, in part, by sponsorship support from Eastman Chemical Company, BB&T Wealth Management, Coors Light, Devil's Backbone Brewing Co., American National Bank & Trust Co. and Piedmont Arts Yo Pros. All proceeds go to support Piedmont Arts programming.
