Piedmont Arts Hosts Teacher Appreciation Reception

Piedmont Arts welcomed over 70 local educators and school administrators to a teacher appreciation reception held at the museum on Thursday, September 5, 2013.

Teachers from Henry County Public Schools, Martinsville City Public Schools and Carlisle School attended the event, which honored local educators for their service to the community, while highlighting the importance of the arts in education.

"Our educators deserve to be celebrated for their commitment and passion for teaching and for all that they do to improve the lives of area youth," said Piedmont Arts Education Coordinator Heidi Pinkston. "This reception not only offers a chance to honor area teachers, but to let them know about programs Piedmont Arts offers that support arts education in local schools."

Many of the educational outreach programs that Piedmont Arts provides local schools were showcased at the reception, including the museum's Treasure Chests, in-school artist workshops and gallery tours, all of which are free resources for local educators.

In addition to enjoying music, door prizes and refreshments provided by the Piedmont Arts Guild, teachers also had the opportunity to network with their colleagues from other schools.

"It's so inspiring to meet other educators in the community and be able to network through the arts," said Becki Williams-Vasquez, a language arts teacher at Carlisle School. "I appreciate the support Piedmont Arts provides us."
