Campbell Court Students Create Special Gift for Piedmont Arts

Fourth grade students from Campbell Court Elementary presented Piedmont Arts with a special gift in appreciation of the museum's Treasure Chest program on October 31.

Students from Mrs. Lankford's, Ms. Truman's and Mrs. Doss' homerooms created an illustrated book expressing their thanks for borrowing the museum's Jamestowne Treasure Chest. The book contains handwritten thank yous and drawings by students illustrating the many things they learned while exploring the Treasure Chest with their teachers.

Emily Grace Wiggington, a student in Mrs. Lankford's homeroom, wrote, "Thank you so, so much! I love everything! It was so cool!"

Piedmont Arts Education Coordinator Heidi Pinkston says the museum is proud of their Treasure Chest program. "At Piedmont Arts, we are so glad that the museum's Treasure Chest program enhanced the learning experience for students at Campbell Court. Education through hands-on activities really helps bring lessons to life. We hope all our area educators will take advantage of this amazing program."

Piedmont Arts' Treasure Chest program aids educators in Martinsville and Henry County schools in teaching the Virginia Standards of Learning through reproductions of works of art from historically important civilizations. Thirteen chests are available, covering topics from Ancient Greece and Rome to Edgar Allan Poe and The Underground Railroad. All artifacts, study materials and other items included in each Treasure Chest have been carefully researched to help provide an exciting learning experience. Treasure Chests are free of charge to local educators and are delivered and picked up by Piedmont Arts staff.
