Piedmont Arts Announces 2014-2015 Performing Arts Season

Piedmont Arts' 2014–2015 performing arts season will kick off this fall with a dynamic trio of On Stage performances that will bring bluegrass, classical and swing music to Martinsville-Henry County. This year's season also features three special events, including performances by audience favorites Professor Elliot Engel and actor Mike Wiley.

"Piedmont Arts is proud to bring its 23rd year of On Stage to Martinsville-Henry County," said Executive Director Kathy Rogers. "Piedmont Arts strives to bring high-quality entertainment to the community and this year is no different. We really have something for everyone. We hope the community will come out and enjoy all our performing arts events."

The Annie Moses band combines the best of beloved genres in a style that unifies audiences: young and old; classical connoisseurs and roots enthusiasts; jazz aficionados and bluegrass buffs. Their latest album, Rhapsody In Bluegrass, is a panoramic exploration of American music. Inspired by George Gershwin, who wrote his American classic, Rhapsody In Blue, while riding the rails from New York to Boston, Rhapsody In Bluegrass fuses jazz, classical, and roots music to create a dynamic concert experience.

Direct from London, The Jive Aces are internationally renowned for their superior musicianship and spectacular stage show, not to mention their energetic renditions of Swing/Jive/R&B classics by greats like Cab Calloway, Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. But, the fun doesn’t stop with high-energy music. The Tinseltown Jitterbugs, a bevy of beautiful betties and cool cats, will bring fast-paced, high-flying swing dancing to the stage in a can’t miss combo.

Patriarch Cornelius Vanderbilt's descendants went on to build grand mansions on Fifth Avenue in New York City, luxurious "summer cottages" in Newport, Rhode Island and the palatial Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Guests are invited to enjoy an optional pre-talk dinner with Dr. Engel.

Hailed by critics as “bigger and better than ever before,” this production boasts many exciting special effects including the show’s legendary chandelier, new scenic and lighting designs and new staging and choreography.
