Piedmont Arts Reception Raises Money for Arts Education Fund

Under a canopy of colorful mobiles created by local students, over 90 guests attended a reception to raise funds for Piedmont Arts' Kathryn Ascough Smith Arts Education Fund, which was held at the museum on Friday night.

Created in June 2013 through a gift by her sister, Julie Work, the fund was named in memory of Kay Smith for her long-time support of Piedmont Arts.

"It's an honor to support Kay's legacy and ensure that the arts play a primary role in local schools," said Betty Lou Pigg, a recent recipient of Piedmont Arts' Clyde Hooker Award, who helped plan the reception that raised over $5,000 for the museum's education fund. "Kay and her family have always been passionate about the arts and education and this fund is essential to the continued presence of Piedmont Arts' outreach programming in our schools."

Piedmont Arts Executive Director Kathy Rogers says the fund will enable the museum to look for new and exciting ways to reach both students and adults through the visual and performing arts.
