Latin Ballet of Virginia Brings “Dia de los Muertos” to On Stage

As part of the museum’s celebration of Latin American arts and culture, Celebración de las ArtesPiedmont Arts On Stage will bring the Latin Ballet of Virginia to Martinsville on Thursday, October 29. The group will perform the ballet, “Día de los Muertos,” at 7 pm at Martinsville High School Auditorium.

A centuries old Mexican celebration of family and love for souls long departed, “Día de los Muertos” weaves tales and traditions that are the heart and soul of Hispanic culture, with the passion and expressive beauty of dance.

“El Día de los Muertos is a celebration of one of the most traditional Mexican festivities,” said Ana Ines King, founder, artistic director and educational programs director for the Latin Ballet. "This Aztec ritual and commemoration started at least 3,000 years ago. It is a festive interaction that embraces the cycle of life. Mesoamerican natives, African-Americans and Spanish blend their traditions during the celebration.”

“Through Celebración de las Artes, Piedmont Arts hopes to elevate the appreciation and understanding of Latin American arts and culture in our community,” said Executive Director Kathy Rogers. “The Latin Ballet of Virginia is known for their innovative and immersive performances that affect positive and sustainable change in people’s lives. We know that our community will truly be amazed by their inventive stage production and artistic prowess.
