As part of Celebracion de las Artes, Piedmont Arts brought renowned Andean musicians Andes Manta to the community. The group of four brothers from Ecuador conducted lecture demonstrations in four area elementary schools, Albert Harris, Campbell Court, Drewry Mason and Patrick Henry. In addition to the lecture demonstrations, Andes Manta gave a panpipe workshop to students in the Martinsville Middle School Afterschool Art Program and a public performance at Piedmont Arts.

“Piedmont Arts reached well over 1,000 students over the past week through it presentation of Andes Manta to area schools,” said Executive Director Kathy Rogers. “The group uses their music to teach about life and culture in Ecuador and it was a perfect part of Celebracion de last Artes, Piedmont Arts’ focus on Latin American arts and culture.”

Piedmont Arts will continue Celebracion de las Artes through December with a free Feliz Navidad Family Day on December 12 from 1 – 3 pm, focusing on Mexican holiday traditions, and its latest exhibits, Aura by Juan Francisco Adaro and Ten Days in Havana, a photography exhibit from David Spear, which are on display through January 2.
