Art collector James W. Hyams to provide
in-depth look at print collecting
Art collector James W. Hyams will lead a gallery talk on the exhibit “Collecting Prints” at Art @ Happy Hour on Friday, April 15 from 5 – 7 pm at Piedmont Arts.
Featuring original prints selected from Hyams’ extensive collection, “Collecting Prints” features 61 works by 47 artists, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Damien Hirst, Robert Cottingham, Chuck Close, Robert Rauschenberg and more.
Not only does “Collecting Prints” feature original prints by famous artists, it also attempts to answer common questions about print collecting, including:
“What is a collectable print?”
"Why should I consider buying a print?” and
“What do I need to know before spending my money?”
"Most artists enjoy printmaking and it is an important part of their artistic output,” said Hyams. "Creating an original work using printmaking techniques allows the artist to express his or her vision in a new and different way. This exhibit attempts to answer common questions about print collecting that I have been asked over the years. I hope guests will enjoy learning about this fascinating area of collecting.”
Part of Third Friday Art Walk, Art @ Happy Hour allows guests to view the museum’s exhibits in a casual, fun setting. Complimentary refreshments, beer and wine are provided. Everyone invited to attend. Admission is free.
“Collecting Prints: Selections from the Collection of James W. Hyams” will be on display through April 30 at Piedmont Arts.
Piedmont Arts exhibits are always admission free. Museum hours are Tuesday – Friday: 10 am – 5 pm and Saturday: 10 am – 3 pm. For more information, visit PiedmontArts.org.
