Piedmont Arts Honors Supporters at Clyde Hooker Awards, June 7

Piedmont Arts will honor Dr. Joan Montgomery and Ridgeway Signs for their support of Piedmont Arts and the arts in Martinsville-Henry County at the Clyde Hooker Awards on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the museum.

Named in honor of J. Clyde Hooker, Jr., the Clyde Hooker Award is given annually by Piedmont Arts in recognition of individuals and businesses for their support of the museum and other arts and cultural organizations in Martinsville-Henry County. This marks the 16th year that the museum has honored recipients with the award.

“It is a privilege to be able to honor Joan Montgomery and Ridgeway Signs with this year’s Clyde Hooker Award,” said Executive Director Heidi Pinkston. “A former President of the Piedmont Arts Board of Directors, Joan has been a major supporter of the museum for many years. She has served on the Piedmont Arts scholarship committee for 10 years, served as chair of the Dancing for the Arts committee since the event’s inception and has worked tirelessly on this and other Piedmont Arts events and fundraisers. Over her 36 years as a teacher, principal and school administrator, she brought her love of the arts into area schools, including piloting Piedmont Arts’ first Minds in Motion program at Albert Harris Elementary.”

“Ridgeway Signs is a generous supporter of Piedmont Arts,” continued Pinkston. “Owners Ed and Shirley Page provide support for the museum’s exhibits and their staff is a great help with museum projects, like creating signage for the Gravely-Lester Art Garden. We are pleased to honor Ridgeway Signs for all that they do in our community.”

In addition to the recipients of the Clyde Hooker Award, Piedmont Arts will also recognize 2018 Arts in Education Award recipients Shauna Hines, secondary instructional technology resource teacher for Martinsville City Schools and Michele Minich, art teacher at Martinsville Middle School; as well as the recipients of the 2018 Nicodemus Hufford Memorial Arts Scholarship Erica Gilley and Caitlyn Kidd; and the 2018 recipients of the Harold Knowlton Work Memorial Arts Scholarship Breanna Ferguson, Cody McVey and Alyssa Prillaman.

The Clyde Hooker Awards ceremony will begin promptly at 5:30 pm. Guests are invited to enjoy a reception with light refreshments following the awards ceremony. In lieu of an admission cost, guests may make a donation to Piedmont Arts’ scholarship fund. Please RSVP attendance to 276.632.3221 or online here.
