Curators Talk Quilts at Art @ Happy Hour, Dec. 13

Enjoy Art @ Happy Hour at Piedmont Arts with a free guided tour of the exhibit, The Art of the Quilt: Trends on Thursday, December 13 from 5 – 7 pm.

Co-curators Linda M. Fiedler and Betty Blessin will lead a gallery talk from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. Complimentary refreshments and an open bar will be available during the event.

“Art @ Happy Hour is a fun way to experience Piedmont Arts exhibits,” said Director of Exhibitions and Marketing Bernadette Moore. “The event is low-key and casual, encouraging guests to view the quilts up close, ask questions, and learn more about the art of quilt making.”

Works by 48 quilt artists from across the Southeast are on display in this fiber arts showcase, which features hand- and machine-stitched quilts, contemporary textiles, and clothing – including a wedding dress.

“This exhibit is an indicator of the creative energy among artists who are currently making quilts,” said Fiedler. “Having evolved beyond the quilt as just a bed covering, these artists approach quiltmaking much as an artist approaches painting — by combining idea, color, material, composition, form, texture, and spontaneity to express their personal interpretation of their world."

Works by Virginia Foothills Quilters Guild will also be on display in the museum’s Lynwood Artists Gallery. A Piedmont Arts Community Partner, the Guild was formed to create, stimulate, maintain and report an interest in all matters pertaining to the making, collecting and preserving of quilts and to establish and promote educational endeavors through quilting. More than 30 quilts by local artists are on display.

The Art of the Quilt: Trends and Works by Virginia Foothills Quilters Guild will be on display at Piedmont Arts through December 29, 2018. Exhibit admission is always free.
