In November, Smith River Singers made a $2,000 donation to Piedmont Arts in support of the museum's Nicodemus Hufford Memorial Arts Scholarship. The donation will allow Piedmont Arts to continue providing the Hufford Scholarship to area students.
“The Smith River Singers are very proud to play a small part in supporting artistic scholarship opportunities for students in our area,” said Smith River Singers Artistic Director Dr. Pamela Randall. "We have a rich history in the areas of performing and fine arts in Martinsville and Henry County and welcome the opportunity to make sure we continue to cultivate art and music education for budding artists.”
“We are very grateful to Smith River Singers for their generous donation,” said Piedmont Arts Executive Director Heidi Pinkston. “Piedmont Arts has been giving the Hufford Scholarship for more than 30 years. It provides much needed financial support to students from our community. With the help of Smith River Singers, Piedmont Arts will be able to continue this support in the coming years.”
Named in honor of famed portrait artist Nicodemus "Nick" Hufford, the Hufford Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Martinsville or Henry County or who attended a school located in Martinsville-Henry County, and who have auditioned for and been accepted into a visual or performing arts program at an accredited four-year institution. Applications for the Hufford Scholarship are available each year in the spring. Visit PiedmontArts.org for more information.
