Southwest Virginia Ballet's "The Firebird" Brings Story of Magic and Love to Stage
Based on a Russian folk tale, The Firebird is a story full of magic and love. Under Artistic Director Pedro Szalay, Southwest Virginia Ballet will revive the stunning choreography of internationally known choreographer Vicente Nebrada and the Classic Strings Duo will perform the brilliant original score by famed composer Igor Stravinsky.
Set in the tropics, a host of fantastic creatures aid the lead characters, the Firebird and the prince, in their quest to rescue a princess from an evil magician and his companion. Stunning costumes by internationally recognized costume designer Christina Giannini include lizard-like monsters, dragonflies and the spectacular Firebird, whose feathers are thought to bestow beauty and protection upon the earth. Featuring the best dance and musical performers in the Roanoke Valley, The Firebird is a must-see for the entire family.
